Numerical simulation of beam extraction and optics of an NBI negative ion source

A negative ion source for the Neutral Beam Injection (NBI) system of China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) is under development in Southwestern Institute Physics. The aim to extract an H– beam 20 a pulse duration 3600 s at energy 200 keV. In this work, optics investigated with single beamlet model COMSOL environment. effects varying main electromagnetic parameters are studied. boundary between plasma and beam, namely meniscus, calculated self-consistent method. optimal condition which has minimum divergence angle found. within limits. magnetic field produced by permanent magnets extraction grid verified deflect co-extracted electrons effectively, while inducing slight offset beam. As conclusion, capable operate as required.
